This is a piece I've had in mind for ages, and a tribute to my Mom, Jill Parker. She looooved geology, how small it made her feel, and how the stories of Earth's history are written in the rocks.

She always called this particular location (on I-70, west of Denver, as you drive through the first hogback) "Rainbow Roadcut."

I grew up thinking everyone knew it as Rainbow Roadcut! Apparently it was a name she invented? I think it's quite brilliant.
