Oh my! Would you look at the Geologic Time!?!?
Oh my! Would you look at the Geologic Time!?!?
This is a piece I've had in mind for ages: a tribute to my Mom, Jill Parker. She looooved geology; how small it made her feel, and how the stories of Earth's history are written in the rocks.
She always called this particular location (on I-70, west of Denver, as you drive through the first hogback) "Rainbow Roadcut"
I grew up thinking everyone knew it as Rainbow Roadcut! Apparently it was a name she invented. I think it's quite brilliant.
Please consider this piece the launch of a campaign to spread the knowledge of "Rainbow Roadcut" far and wide.
